An open letter for the two worlds I met: Finance and AI.

Last week, they met each other.

AI spoke first, through a strategist. Dirk Hofmann showed the math: AI can win every single task and the workflow still loses, because every handoff to a review gate eats the gain. A queue nobody measures is uncontrolled by definition.

Finance answered, through a CFO. Martin Konop counted the same cost in people: seven systems, decently integrated, and a team breaking under the load between them. The standard fix was headcount. He fixed the system instead, for less than the price of a job ad.

Two worlds. Two languages. One diagnosis:

The queue is where organizations store their unmade decisions.

The machines stopped being the bottleneck a while ago. The handoffs are. And a handoff is not technology. It is a decision, waiting for someone with the courage to own it.

I spent a career inside those queues. They are both right.
